Saujanyah Shetty

A fashion journalist by profession, Saujanyah Shetty, daughter of Krishna Y Shetty and Uma K Shetty is one of the youngsters of our community who has set an example to others by choosing an unique profession and excelling in it. Her interest in fashion is said to have begun since she was a child of 8, often layering her clothes and accessorizing they way other kids wouldn’t. Her creative streak was channelized due to her parents’ efforts in having her trained in art, dance, singing and other such creative hobbies. It came as no surprise when the science student decided to switch to Fashion and move to Delhi for further education in the field.
Saujanyah completed a four-year degree programme of Fashion Communication where her majors were Fashion Journalism and Styling from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi. Even before graduating she started writing and interviewing designer alumni for ‘Fashion and Beyond’—the NIFT magazine. While in college she freelanced for ‘Les Nouvelles’—a magazine for the Indian embassy in France.
Saujanyah’s first job was at Harper’s BAZAAR, at Singapore where her duties included writing, sourcing, styling, public relations and liaising with international brands.

Since then she has worked for various magazines viz. Jet Wings (travel Magazine), Apparel (a magazine by the Clothing manufacturers association of India), Imperia (an in-house luxury magazine for HDFC bank), First Update (a Shoppers Stop in-house magazine) and Hair (a UK based hair and beauty magazine). She has also been an editor for The Plot (a movie magazine for Adlabs theatres in the United States). She has been a Team leader for Design Development of a Fashion Jewellery firm.
Her inspiration for her work comes from her constant exposure to travel and her constant need to explore the arts. Being creatively inclined Saujanyah also undertakes photography projects and designs hotel uniforms in her free time.
Her Hobbies include writing poems and short storeis. You can view her Poems and Short stories in her webpage .
